NOTE: Finding my way home is on hiatus until further notice, pending re-branding.
Finding My Way Home is a Michigan-registered nonprofit organization founded by Jaiden Shephard in 2014, that rounds out the TRIO of The 'VTJ' Collabo, but operates INDEPENDENTLY of its for-profit partners. This organization exists to involve people connected to fashion & entertainment who do GOOD for their communities through inspiring stories and uplifting entertainment as the STAPLE of its events hosted bi-annually, as well as 'quarterly' community works (see gallery). Jaiden is also Speaker at FMWH events.
Finding My Way Home also aims to validate its stance in metro Detroit by linking to other existing and successful nonprofits. Through 'FMWH', we raise funding through our bi-annual events to do the following:
A) Donate canned goods/nonperishables for food banks and prepare sack lunches for the homeless B) Contribute non/monetary donations to major/specific causes in MI C) Conduct our own 'quarterly' work through minor-but-beneficial projects. D) Upgrade our presence over time to provide sound inspiration and entertainment with each event we host.
On Saturday, February 15, 2014, the first 'Finding My Way Home' debuted as a 'test-run'. Six speakers, 2 spoken word artists shared their stories, and models presented designs by 3 fashion designers, including Vintage Ties by Jaiden. Sixty pounds of canned goods/non perishables were donated to Forgotten Harvest and 3 sack lunches were delivered to the homeless. It's a start and a success! See gallery for pics. On Friday, August 22, 2014, the second (but 1st official) run of Finding My Way Home opened to the Harper Woods Public School community to touched hearts and great reviews. The event included an inspirational speaker panel, live entertainment, and great fashion (flyer can be seen below). Just to see an excellent panel share their personal stories and overcoming obstacles was a great courage in itself. This event also had a larger and improved fashion presence with live performances from local artists such as host Frank Fisher, Detroit R&B sensation.
Finding My Way Home continues to evolve and adapt to the call of providing events that encourage people to WIN and that they indeed can have a SECOND CHANCE in life!
